TREASURE TROVE.

COINS FOUND AT BRISTOL,

LONDON, Aug. 19

A verdict of “Treasure Trove” lias been returned by a Bristol Coroner s jury which inquired into the discovery of 'I4BO Roman coins during bunding °' IV.’s charter of 1461, Bristol is entitled to retain its own treasure trove. The Corporation is nonclaiming the coins.

Treasrue trove is the legal expression for coin, bullion, gold, or silver articles found hidden in the earth for which no owner can be discovered. In England for centuries the right to treasure trove has been with the Crown which may grant it out ns a franchise. It is the duty of the finder, and, indeed, of -anyone who acquires knowledge, to report the matter to the Coroner, who must forthwith hold an inquest to find whether the discovery be treasure trove or not.
