SHOOTING TRAGEDY.
YOUTH’S FATAL WOUNDS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 29. Donald Marfarlane, aged about 19, was fatally wounded by a shot accidentally discharged from a companion’s rifle while rabbit shooting near AA’aikari this afternoon on a driveway. Macfarlane, and his companion, Thomas McCabe, aged 17, saw two hares and apparently turned to Macfarlane, who was standing about three yards away. As McCabe turned, with 1)001 hands on the rifle, it went off, and Macfarlane fell to the ground. McCabe tried to lift him, but Macfarlane made n j response to his efforts, and McCabe then ran for help to a Glenorchy homestead, one mile away. Macfarlane was dead when he wns examined by Dr. Page, of AVaikari. Efforts are being made by tile police to trace Maefarlane’s relatives.
