RAILWAY BUSINESS.

REVENUE INCREASES. Particulars relative to business transacted at the Feilding railway station for the four weeks ended August 21, 1937, are supplied by the stationmaster (Mr D. Finlay) as under. Figures for the corresponding period #n 1936 are shown in parentheses : Outward Traffic.—Number of passengers, 2085 (1212); passenger revenue, £538 (£396) ; cattle and calves, 5170 (5193) ; sheep, 9566 (6271); goods tonnage, 1108 (764) ; goods revenue, £IBB2 (£1544); parcels revenue, £538 (£396); miscellaneous revenue, £62 (£57); total revenue, £2527 (£2033). Inward Traffic. —Cattle and calves,. 5498 (7897) ; sheep, 6658 (4654) ; timber, 97,830 super, ft. (162,900) ; goods tonnage, 2849 (2227); goods revenue, £2845 (£2550) ; parcels revenue, £si (£55) ; total revenue, £2902 (£2605). It will be noticed that both inward and outward revenue has improved substantially. The passenger revenue increased due to the large number of people travelling to the first Rugby Test. Heavier wool and fertiliser consignments than last year account for the higher figures regarding goods tonnage, while large consignments of sheep from the Feilding stock sale to Main Trunk districts boosted the outward sheep figures. Substantially larger quantities of fertilisers, lime and coal were responsible for the increased inward goods revenue.
