LESS WOOL WANTED.
JAPANESE STATEMENT. Received August 30, 2.5 p.m. TOKIO, Aug. 29. The Minister of Communications, Mr Ryutaro Ngai, inforiqed a conference of the Shipping Federation that the Government desired adequate control of shipping in order to counteract the shortage of tonnage. The conference promised compliance with the Government policy. The Minister of Commerce, Mr Sliiki Yoshido, expressed the Government’s desire to restrict the annual wool imports to half a million bales and reduce the output of woollen cloth by thirty per cent. Wool importers desired 800,000 bales. Mr Yoshido urged the substitution of fibre for wool.
