SEARCHING ALL SHIPS.
JAPANESE WARSHIPS ACTIVE. Received August 30, 2.30 p.m. * LONDON, Aug. 29. The Telegraph’s Hong Kong correspondent says that it is reliably reported that J apanese warships are stopping and searching all ships off Swatow. The destroyer, Delight, is protecting British nationals at Foochow and will watch any Japanese attempt to blockade the south-west coast.
BATTLE IN 'THE NORTH.

The Chinese left 170 dead on the Liang-Shiang battlefield, including youths between fifteen and seventeen. A Chinese division entered Amoy and occupied the barracks, the Japanese residents being withdrawn. The Chinese, without notifying Japan,' have transferred to Siam the secretariat-general of the Shantung Railway, which was formerly under Japanese management. Japan regards this as a breach of faith.
REFUGEES ARRIVING.

Received August 30, 2 p.m. HONG KONG, Aug. 29. ■ Additional penniless refugees are arriving from Shanghai. Mrs W. L. Shinn, wife of a ship’s captain, was taken to hospital where she gave birth to triplets.
