WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP.
Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Aug. 29. The Dominion women’s hockey championship tournament began yesterday afternoon in fine weather after light rain in the morning. The grounds were heavy and the standard of hockey generally was as good as could be expected for the first dav. The teams that won did so because the stick work of their players was more finished and their combination more happy. Rejection A.—Eastern Southland A 8 beat South Otago A 2, Nelson 4 beat S Bfctihn 8.-Otago 5 beat South Otago 0, Eastern Southland B drew with Wellington 1 all. , Orm+u Section C.—Wairarapa 6 heat Southland B 0, Canterbury d beat Ashburton 1.
