“THE SHINING' HOUR”

REPERTORY PLAY CONCLUDES. Presented by the Palmerston North Repertory Society, “The Shining Hour” concluded a three nights’ season in the Empire Hall on Saturday night, when there was a capacity audience. Congratulations were showered upon the producer, Mr M. H.. Oram, and those who took part in the play or assisted in any way, a number of bouquets and other gifts being presented at the conclusion of the performance. Air Oram, who is also president of the society, thanked all who had helped with the production. There were too many, he said, to mention individually, but business firms and private citizens had been very generous in their endeavours to assist the society, lending everything possible. Alueh work was necessary behind the scenes and he thanked Aliss Birnie and her assistants who had attended to the minute details of the piece. Air AV. At. Webster had had charge of the lighting effects, and Air Hean had helped with the arranging of the stage. Air T. AI. IN. Rogers had been stage manager and Air L. I. Pliminer and assistants had been in charge of the box office. Aliss U. Hancock had helped with the makeup ; Miss D. Wischnewsky had supervised the ushering ; and Aliss M. Alortland the wardrobe. The play itself had demanded the very best from those who had acted, and they had acquitted themselves with honour. Four of the players had been new to the stage. Thanks were also extended by Air Oram to Aliss Southey Baker and her assistants, who had supplied the incidental music. Finally, he thanked the' audiences for the way they had attended in so large numbers and shown their appreciation. There was no more cogent influence in the life of a community than the drama, and the society was trying to do a little to help in Palmerston North. Dr. F. H. AlcDowell asked the audience to express its appreciation to the society’s president, who had come forward when Aliss Hancock had been unable to carry on, and done so in her stead. Air Oram, he thought, was to be congratulated on his excellent interpretation of a very fine play.
