Tlie Daily Mail’s diplomatic correspondent says a strong Note of protst against the shooting of the Ambassador to China, Sir Huglie KnatchbullHugessen, which is being sent toTokio to-day, will emphasise the Government’s serious view of the incident. The Daily Telegraph’s Tokio correspondent, in a message by radio-phone, says Japan is apprehensive of tho outcome of the shooting. Some are asking whether it might not lead to British intervention on behalf of China, but beyond expressions of regret from tlie Japanese Foreign Office and tho Admiralty there is an absolute refusal to make anv official statement. Not a single Japanese newspaper has commented on tho shooting, obviously acting on the Government’s instructions.
