ST. ANDREW’S GUILD.

A YEAR OF PROGRESS. ' Rev. J. Hubbard presided over the monthly meeting of the St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild, which was held in St. Andrew’s Hall yesterday afternoon. Despite the inclement weather, there was a good attendance. The hall was beautifully decorated with Iceland jioppies, daphne and winter roses, and a bowl of rises, anemones, and bulb flowers adorned the president’s table. The hostesses were Mesdames 11. E. AlcEwen and H. A 7 oss. The report read by Airs J. Alurray stated, inter alia:—“Ten meetings were held during the year, each being well attended. AVe have been pleased to welcome new members and now we are settled very comfortably in the new hall are pleased to see some of our older members with us again. Our programmes have been very interesting and the various travel and educational talks enjoyable to all. The sixth anniversary of grandmothers’ day was celebrated in December, and we would thank members for their generous collection of £5 sent on to the Wellington orphanage as a Christmas gift. AVe have again to thank Air John Ellis for his donation of a birthday cake and ATr AVeightman for his icing and decorating of it. As the Sunday School children were, having a jubilee tea, it was thought unnecessary to have the usual August party and, instead we donated the cordials for the jubilee tea. In September we enter-! fained St. Paul’s Alethodist Guild andi 1 jn March S. David’s Presbyterian M Guild. _ AA’e paid a return visit to I - St. David’s and the preshlent and trea-|j surer represented our guild when St. ■

David’s entertained delegates from all guilds in the city. These interchanges of visits have been most enjoyable and helped to make many new and pleasant friendships. We regret to record the passing of AUs Geo. ■Simpson, a memlier of the guild. Our secretary, Airs.J. B. Gerrand. has been ill for some' months. We hone she will soon be restored to health.' We recently farewelled Mrs John Marshall On the eve of her departure with Air Marshall for Scotland. Mrs Alarsliall has. beena faithful worker in church, organisations, over a -number of years, and our good wishes for the future go out to both herself and her husband. Flowers have again been sent to sick meml>ers and Christmas - gifts to many aged members of the church j who have been unable to he present at our meetings. A donation of £1 Is was sent to the Alakogai- Lepers Christmas fund. Afrs' Hopwood was kind enough to donate afternoon ten cloths to the guild. These the guild has monogrammed and we hope they will give many years’ service. The Drama Circle has been very active and. including men, has a membership of about 50. Two public performances have been given, resulting in a profit of about £l6. Throe one-act plays are to be produced early in August. The circle have undertaken the curtaining of the new hall, a very worthv objective. The thanks of the guild are given to Airs G. C. Petersen and members for their help in producing plavs for the guild meetings. Our thanks are again given to our president (Airs Aitcliison) who with untiring energy and enthusiasm has done so much for the succpss of the guild; to Air and Airs Hubbard for their interest and support, to those who have entertained u.s, to our hostesses an<l helpers, to Air Ladvman. and the caretaker. We would also like to thank ATr A. P. Stuart for auditing the hooks. and all those who in any way have helped to make the guild a success.” Airs AI. Aitcliison (the president) commented that the year had been a most successful one, and that the ladies had all assisted in making the guild a social one. The balance-sheet, presented by the treasurer (Mrs A. Ferguson), shoved I a credit balance and was adopted. The election of officers resulted:— Patroness, Mrs J. Hubbard; president, Mrs AI. Aitcliison; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames R. D. Knight, Low, A. J. Graham, W. Rutherfurd, J. B. Gerrand, and J. AI urr;T* ; secretary, Mrs Williamson; treasurer, Airs A. Ferguson; committee, Alesdames H. Voss, J. Galland, A. Hopwood, J. McLeod, Wagland, AY. M. Smith, J. AV. Smith, Seator, Til.v, Duff ell, Ivoberstein, and Aliss Alnthewson. , Air Hubbard paid a tribute to Airs Aitcliison, whose untiring energy, ability and tact had contributed in no small measure to the success of the guild. lieturning thanks for her re-election, Mrs Aitcliison said that some of her happiest times had been spent at the guild socials. She thanked the executive and members for their loyalty, and Air and Mrs Hubbard for the interest they took in the guild, to which they really belonged. Special thanks were voiced to Airs Gerrand for her secretarial duties, and Airs Ferguson for her duties as treasurer, Mrs J. Galland for her generous gifts of flowers, and Airs R. Donald who acted as pianiste. A motion of thanks was acorded these ladies, as well as the president. . Air Hubbard made appreciative reference to the work being carried out by the guild, especially in providing social fellowship for new members of the congregation. The deacons court were fullv appreciative of the assistance of tho guild and its president in social gatherings held by the church. The year had been one of progress for the church, last year there having been a deficit of £l2O, this year a credit of £6 being shown, which meant that they had gained £126. Air Hubbard commended the great “unchurch” section of the community; ther.e were great things still to be accomplished, and they should do their very best to. make the church an instrument for the better development of the spiritual life of the conimunltsMrs Voss thanked Air Hubbard for his encouraging remarks. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames F. AVilkinson, H. Boshier, J. Ellis, Skinner, Tipping, AVattereus, Mitchell, Alisses Lindsay and Thompson.
