WEST END.

PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the West End Progressive Association was held last evening, Mr H. W. Bovis presiding in the absence of the chairman (Mr A. W. Just). A letter was received from the Palmerston North City Council intimating that the streets to be tar-sealed in the West End area were Worcester Street and Park Road (Linton Street to Cook Street). The council added that it had allocated the sum available as evenly as possible among the various portions of the city. Mr A. W. Just was appointed to act on a general committee formed for the purpose of promoting the celebration of the city diamond jubilee in November.

A letter from the town clerk stated : “With reference to your communication again asking consideration for a late Saturdav night after-picture bus to West End, I am directed to advise your association of the lack of patronage of a bus running to West End on Friday nights, aiid it is the opinion of the manager that the Saturdav night bus would be less productive. The council, therefore, regets, unless your association could induce additional patronage, that it is unable to agree to the proposal to run the extra bus.” —It was left to the secretary to interview Cr. G. Tremaine on the subject. ~
