MANAWATU-OROUA CLUB

EXECUTIVE’S LAST MEETING-

For the last time the executive of the Manawatu-Oroua Pig Recording Development Club met as such last evening, under the chairmanship of Mr B. E. Keiller. The chairman pointed out that arrangements would be made for the formation of the District Pig Council which is to function in place of the executive after the annual meeting on Saturday. When a cheque was received from the Meat Producers’ Board, a portion of the annual subsidy, Professor Riddet moved that the board be thanked for their assistance in the past and for their valued co-operation in aiding the club to improve the pig industry in the Manawatu. Tlie motion was carried, and <pn the suggestion of Professor Riddet it was also decided that the motion, when sent forward to the board, bo accompanied by a covering letter stating that it would not lmvo been possible to have established the work had the grante not been made by the board. As it was, the club had been in operation for five years, and had laid the foundation of .the national scheme. The letter is to state that the board feels that the assistance has been rewarded, and is to express again the club’s very great appreciation of the monetary assistance and also that given in various other wavs. The Cheltenham Dairy Company forwarded a cheque for £5 ss. The chairman remarked that the company had been extraordinarily good to the club, and a motion of appreciation was also accorded the company, special mention being made of the readiness with which the company had granted the use of tlie facilities at its pig farm. The name of Mr H. E. Thurston, manager of the pig farm, vyas coupled with the motion, and in returning thanks on his own behalf Mr Thurston said that the directors of the company were sorry to see the club going out of existence. In appreciation of their work, Messrs E. P. Nielsen (recording officer) and L. I. Plimmer were granted n bonus of £ls each. In arriving at that decision, said the chairman, the meeting was thoroughly appreciative of the way in which both officers had carried out their duties. The Director-General of Agriculture (Mr A. H. Cockayne) advised that be was anxious that a start be made ns soon as possible with the organisation required for the administration or the fund that was now accumulating from the levy of 2d per pig that had been imposed on all pigs slaughtered since May 1. Mr Cockayne stated lie would be grateful if the club would undertake the formation of a provisional district council in the area, or find someone else who was sufficiently interested to give a lead in the matter as early as possible. The Superintendent of the Pig Industry (Mr M. J. Scott) would be present at the inaugural meeting.— The letter was received. The New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company forwarded a cheque for £lo.—Received. „ , , . . It was decided that the feed trials, now being conducted at Mr W. A.
