ECONOMIC ACTIVITY.
QUESTION IN COMMONS. HOW TO AVOID SLUMP. (British Official Wireless.) Received July 23, 11.55 a.m.' RUGBY, July 22. The measures to be taken to provide against the danger of a recession of economic activity whenever the stimulus of the rearmament programme has ceased was the subject of a question in the House of Commons. It was answered by the Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) who said that measures of the kind were not such as to fall within the purview of a single depa.rtment of State. The whole matter was being studied by the departments most concerned and the Government would afterwards consider it in the light of these studies and would then have to decide its policy.
