FUNERAL CEREMONY

MARCHESE MARCONI. 300,000 PERSONS ATTEND. HONOURED BY FASCISTS. (United Press Association—By Electric To legrapli.—Copy right.) Received July 22, 11.45 a.m. ROME, July 21. Three hundred thousand people, including leading politicians, scientists and artists, followed the funeral procession of Marchese Marconi from the Royal Academy to the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels for the State funeral service, at which Signor Mussolini, all members of Cabinet, high officials and foreign representatives were present. , At an impressive ceremony in the square in front of Rome’s main railway station a high Fascist official, after the delivery of a eulogy, called on Marchese Marconi by name, whereupon the vast crowd responded “present.” . . . The body will .be interred in the family vault at Bologna on July 23.

MARCHESE MARCONI. NEW ZEALAND TRIBUTE. WELLINGTON, July 21. _ The Postmaster-General (Hon. I. Jones) announces that, following the example set by the British Government, and as a mark of respect and tribute to the work of Marchese Marconi in wireless communication, arrangements were made for the observance* by all Government radio stations of a tivo-minutes’ silence to synchronise with the time of the funeral <»f the Marchese, which took place vesterday at 5 p.m., (Greenwich Mean Time). The silence period observed in New Zealand was from 4.30 a.m. to 4.32 a.m. yesterday
