The gipsy Princess Liuba Cerebowaki, aged 21, chief of a tribe of notorious bandits, was shot dead in a fierce fight with the police near Pitesti. The tribe specialised in kidnapping crippled babies and selling them to beggars. The police surrounded the princess’s tent; she jumped out brandishing a knife and injured four of the police. Twenty gipsies have been arrested.
