WAGNER TO RACE.

OUTING AT MARTON. AFTER LONG SPELL. (By “Spectator.”) Entered for a six furlong hack event at Marton on Saturday, the young SiegfriodJ’olonaise gelding Wagner is to have his first race since his Australian trip last Christmas, when ho contracted a cold, lost form, and had to bo brought back. It will be very interesting to seo whether Wagner, a hold galloper, can reproduce his early brilliance. lie is fit and well, having been in work for some three months, but still appears to bo a bit on tho burly side. However, his race on Saturday will reveal just how far forward he is for a spring campaign. Wagnor in 1935 ran third in the Oroua Nursing at Feilding to Laughing Lass and Karl. He followed this up by winning the juvenile Handicap at Woodvillo from the brilliant Mala, runner-up to Talking in two Australian Herbies, and regarded as a distinct Melbourne Cup prospect. Wagner next ran Wild Chase, who was conceding liim 111 b, to half a head in tho Criterion Handicap at EUcrslie. IJe was third in the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes last year, and second in tho Great Northern Champagne Stakes, won by Golden Sheila. Coming, as he does, from a preparation at tho hands of the Awapuni mentor, L. T. Wilson, Wagnor will strip in good fettle for his engagement. Ho lias some good stable-mates in Corroborco, Chat, Quadroon, and tho youngster Florence Mills, the last two being a Nigger Minstrel pair from' Liaison, and full brother and sister. Mala’s Great Gallop.

Mala, tho brilliant Woodvillo candidate for spring racing honours in Australia, did a great gallop on the Randwick grass track, with the (lags 20 feet out, last week. In all, Mala covered nine furlongs, but he just swung along for the first three, when he was allowed more rein, and he ran homo the last six in lrnin 19jscc, the full journey taking 2min lljsec. Even then ho was not all out, his rider having a firm hold over him over the last half-mile, run in 52j,56c. The next best effort at six furlongs was lrnin 22scc, by Silver Standard and Gold Standard, which should give some idea of Mala’s condition. Courtcraft's Fast Work.

Cutting out the first two in 25scc and tho first four furlongs in 49 4-ssec, Courtcraft and Francis Drake covered six furlongs in lrnin 17 3-ssec, without being extended, at Wanganui on Tuesday. Under the circumstances it was a very satisfactory effort, and Courtcraft’s smooth style was suggestive of a good deal in reserve.

Brilliancy To Run. Brilliancy, who figures in tho mnidon class at Marton, is an Australian-bred three-year-old son of Excitement who was expected to be good early this season but who proved hard to train and was turned out after three outings. He was recently purchased from Mrs W. D. Graham by Mrs 1. Hoare, of Wanganui. Swift And Sure.

A newcomer to the tracks at Hawora Is the seven-year-old gelding Swift and Sure, by Bold and Bad from G'halac, the latter by the Spearmint horse Gyklon. Chalao is tho dam of Limulus. Swift and Sure won two fiat races as a threo-ycar-old, and at five years won the Corunna Hack Hurdles

at Trentham, also running second in the Vittoria Hurdles at the same meeting. An injury to a kneo put him off the 6ceno, but, recovering, lie lias been qualified with tho hounds, and, providing ho remains sound, he is likely to bo heard of in hunters’ ovonts. He is of splendid type for the jumping business and works impressively on the track. Potent Racing Well.

Potent, who won the Waihao Handicap at tho Waimate mooting, has raced most consistently during the last few months, for. ho has started on nine occasions since last March and lias only been out of a place once since then. At Greymouth he was placed on two occasions, and, after running third at Reofton, camo out later in tho day, accounting for tho Highweight Handicap, seven furlongs. Returning to Greymouth, ho was twice second over six furlongs and a mile and a-quarter respectively. He again returned to the winning list in the Moreton Handicap, six furlongs, at Ashburton, boating among others Waitnka, Miracle, Rebel Mato, and Sir Hugh. Potent is a five-year-old gelding by Potoa from Fraisette, an Englishbred maro by Valais, and was originally In Mr W. C. Ring’s stud at Hinuera.

Horses At Hawera. Having sold Coro-.ya, his owncr-tramer, B. ’La Pouple, will now give bis attention at Hawora to the rising three and four-year-old Le Marquise arid Gold Glare. The former is by Lord Quox from Lady Gen, a daughter of Ludy General, and Gold Glare is a full relative to Corowa. Lc Marquise, though on the small side, has thickenod out and displays plenty of quality. He showed pace and determination before being turned out for the winter and looks a likely, sort. A bigger horse than Corowa, Gold Glaro handles himself well and promises well. Not For Riccarton.

Although entered for the principal steeplechase events at the Grand National meeting, All Irish will not bo taken to Riccarton. Ho lias been working satisfactorily since he returned to Ellerslie from Trentham and looks all the better for the racing that he had. All Irish will rnako his next appearance at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting. Rebel Lad’s Brother.

Rebel Leader, a three-year-old gelding by Robcspiorro from the Gay Lad mare Keel Row, is starting to learn what the racing business is under the tutorship of his owner-trainer, Mr F. Flail, says a Ricearton report. This brother to a useful horse in Rebel Lad suffered a leg injury when a youngster, and this is tho first time that he has been in training. Flc is a big chestnut horse and was bred by Mr Donald Grant.

A Prospective Hurdler, Princo Colossus was given a further trial over hurdles at Ellorslic last week, and his showing, apart from balking at one of the obstacles, was satisfactory. On his efforts to date it is evident that the Colossus gelding will need plenty of schooling before ho becomes a proficient jumper, says an exchange. On future occasions he wilt probably be tried in company with another jumper, and that will enable him to gain experience in the new department.

Cyclonic At Riccarton. A few months ago, Cyclonic bore the appearance of the trained racehorse, but to-day he might well be mistaken for a utility horse very much in the rough, says a Riccarton report. After breaking down on tho West Coast at Easter, his ownertrainer, E. R. McCleruian, left him there to spell. He is now back at Riccarton, a shadow of his former self, but it may not take long to make! him presentable again. Stratford Club’s Year.

Tho Stretford Racing Club has made a net profit of £1505 this year, and is purchasing an additional 53 acres adjoining the course.
