MAKINO.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) MAKINO July 22. Quite a good number of euchre players attended the recent evening held in the local hall. Miss V. Petersen won the first prize in the ladies’ section, the consolation prize* being awarded to Mrs W. .Hills. Mr R. Wichnowsky was the winner in the men’s section, and tho sealed went to Mr J. Pearson. After supper tho local players provided music for dancing. Mr and Mrs IX McGregar won a Monte Carlo waltz. The euchre prizes were donated by Mrs 11. E. Thurston, and Mr J. Amer. Tho friends of Mrs G. Roberts will regret to learn that she has boon compelled to enter a private hospital. Captain Barcharn, “The' Laurels,” Greytown, who has been staying with Mrs J. W. Nairn, has now returned home. Mr and Mrs J. N. Cummings and Miss N. Cummings have roturned homo after spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs W. Watkins, of Tau rnnga, and Mrs P. Patterson, of Paeroa, have returned to their respective homes after slaying with Mrs W. P. Bickers. Mrs P. R. Simpson returned home at tho week-end after spending a short' holiday, with her sister, Mrs D. O’Keefe, Lower I-lutt. Mrs T. Gilbert, of Taihape, spent the week-end with Mrs N. Moray. Tho friends of Mr A. Roberts will be pleased to learn that, aftor being several weeks in hospital, he has returned to his home.
