CHOKEBORE LODGE.

STRONG RACING TEAM. £IO,OOO IN STAKES. Though most of the horses from Chokebore Lodge have been on the easy list since Easter, nearly all are in work again at Ricoarton, and the team should be prominent in spring racing. During this season horses prepared from this stable won more than £IO,OOO, Sir Charles Clifford’s share exceeding £9COO. Two members of the toam were raced this month at Trentham. Day Dress performed moderately, but Rival Hit was a winner, his form being so attractive that lie is now being discussed as a candidate lor other successes early in. the now season. Theso two will be in action at the Grand National meeting, and they will have Trench Fight as a mate. He lias been in work for some time and is a popular fancy for the Winter Cup. While Trench Fight looks like lioing in good order next month, two other four-year-olds will not bo ready till later in the spring. They arc Wild Chase and Paper Slippo., good winners this season, who have only just started on a preparation.

Haughty Winner, one of this season's prominent two-year-olds, luis been kept going throughout the winter, while Nightdress has been ill work lor a long time. These two colts, are getting into good shape, and they should lie ready to show their, best in tho spring. One or both may contest the Dunedin Guineas for Sir Charles Clifford, while Nightdress impresses as a Derby candidate. Another patron of (lie stable may have Lazybones for the samo race. This Nigger Minstrel colt was good in the autumn mid may develop into a stayer of class. Great Bramble is another two-year-old who looks well sinco coming back to work. Great Memory, also in useful work, is only a novice, and lias not, been seriously tried yet. Mob Rule will come on later. Mulatto is working well since she resumed. She will bo racing in the spring and she should pay her way as a sprinter. Jed Forest, though not sound, lias a good turn of speed and may get some more money at the Grand National meeting. It seems too much to expect that the stable will refloat this) season’s successes with two-year-olds, but tho five no.v in work are a promising let.

Sir Charles has five other yearlings to come in later. They are Keen Sight, by Niglitmarth—Good Sight: Happy Moments, by Magnus—Retrospect; Great Flight, by Magnus—Swoopalolig: Macliikuva, by Winning Hit—Brave Deed: and Every Port by Winning Hit —Sailor’s Love. ’1 he yearlings now in work have reasonable prospects, but it is possible that the best of tho season’s draft is a colt which still has to mako his appearance at Riccafton.
