A CONSISTENT WINNER. IRON CONSTITUTION. (By “Spectator.”) Raced successfully over distances from six furlongs to a mile and three furlongs, the Samlstar gelding Taitoru, who has been kept right up to racing shape for a. period of nine months, and won well at both the Wanganui and Manawatu wintermeetings, appears to he a horse with an iron constitution. After having more starts than any other Taranaki horse this season, he appears to he none the worse and has won twice in his last thrccc attempts. Purchased for £B, Taitoru was hacked around for some time on his owner's farm at Pihama before Mr IS. G. Bavlis decided to race him. Taitoru made a groat comeback to run second to first-class hacks in Bon liraggic and Aiatoru at Trentham and then to win on the final day. lie was not to remain long in hack company, for after winning at Rangitikei and Wanganui, he embarked on a successful career among the open handicappers to score on the second (lay of iho latter meeting. Although beaten, Taitoru covered himself in glory when he ran Matnra to a head in the Taranaki Cup, going on lo take the Egmont Cup. Stratford in March was the scene of his next sueccss and but for had luck in his races he might have been a winner on other occasions during the autumn. Winter conditions made little difference to Taitoru, and although ho mixed sprints and middle-distance racing it had little effect on hie constitution. With a record of nine firsts in 26 Starts sineo October, lie has won more races this season than any other horse in New Zealand, and hns collected £1970 in stakes for the period. During his racing career Taitoru has had 66 starts for 11 wins. 16 second placing*, and six thirds, earning in all £2315 in slakes.

It is a far cry from sueccss in hack hurdle company at an Ashburton mooting to victory in tho Grand National Hurdles, but Cottingham, winner of the Hinds Hurdles in June, is favoured in some quarters for the big hurdle event.
