INCREASED IMPORTS.

“We cannot continue to import at the present increasin'? rate without grave injury to New Zealand industry and the employment position.” stated Mr .Tames Hog" oast president of the Manufacturers’ Federation, to-day. The import statistics, he said, revealed an increase of over £l7 000 000 since 1931. The costs of New Zealand industrial production had been heavily raised with no attempt to offset this by extra safeguarding. In the last two years the imperts from Australia had increased by £1 703.000, wlrle our exports there had fallen by £40,000.
