SPRINGBOKS’ TOUR.

MESSAGE FROM MANAGER. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 20: The Wanganella, which arrives from Sydney to-morrow, is bringing the Springboks, who will open their New Zealand tour with a match against Auckland, at Eden Park, oir Saturday. They will be welcomed by officials ol the New Zealand Rugbv Union at the wharf and will he tendered a civic reception in the Town Hall. Officials who arrived from the south this morning were Mr T. R. Meredith, Invercargill, president of the New Zealand Rugby Union; Mr S. S. Dean, chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand union, and Mr F. Glasgow, a member of the manage--ment committee, who will be the union’s representative with the Springboks during their New Zealand tour. Mr Glasgow was a member of the famous 1905 All Black team. In a special message to the New Zealand Herald sent by radio telegram on the eve of the opening of the Springboks’ New Zealand tour, the manager of the team (Mr P. Day; said : “We are looking forward with the keenest interest to your beautiful country and all of us were very much interested in our first glimpse of the northern coast this afternoon. We are delighted to reach New Zealand after having had hard games in Australia. “We are not the w-orld-beaters that Australia makes us out to he. We are a team of amateurs visiting your country for the purpose of playing friendly games. We realise we are meeting Rugby players of the highest calibre and we expect hard games in every centre where we shall play. “Tt is unfortunate that on _ landing we will have several casualities ir, our team, hut we trust the changed climatic conditions in New Zealand will very quickly remedy the ailments from which some of our members are suffering.”

Tlie following team has been selected to represent Auckland against the Springboks in the opening match of the South Africans’ tour at t Eden Park on Saturday:— Full-back, Busb • three-ouarters. Dick, Prentice, Ryerlev; five-eighths. Killeen. D. Solomon ; half-back. Frankhnm ; forwards, Poaree, Hadlev. Pepper, Lockineton, Hull, Lange, F. Solomon, Anderson. The fifteen contains -six former Now Zealand representatives.
