WINTER SHOW

GATE STEWARD’S REPORT. “In submitting a brief report on the gate of the recent Winter Show I wish to congratulate you on the results achieved, notwithstanding the very bad weather experienced,” stated the report of the chief gate steward (Mr T. A. Hastings) which w'as received at the monthly meeting of the general committee of tlie Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association yesterday. The report continued : “The first day’s takings amounting to £49 16s, are. I believe, the smallest recorded for any single day in the association’s his tory; only 959 persons were admitted on ticket on that day, which will go to show that only those that were compelled to be present braved tlie elements. Taken over tlie five days, admissions by ticket totalled 15 760 persons. This, combined with those paying for admission, will indicate that the attendance was exceptionally good, and that the Winter Show will maintain its popularity. There were many patrons who expressed themselves os particularly struck with the size and excellence of the Show. For the five days the owners of 641 ears paid for admission to the grounds. This number does not include those booking positions prior to the Show. “It has been suggested that free admission l>e given to all school children during one special day of each Winter Show instead of on any davon ticket as at present. lam in entire agreement with this, and I would further suggest that no ticket whatever be issued, the only condition being that children seven years and under must be accompanied by their parents. Free admission on the special day should also include hoys and girls of high schools and technical schools attending in their school uniform. This would overcome many of the disabilities at present experienced, and it would save the printing of school tickets and an immense amount of work to the office staff and teachers alike. School children attending the Show this vear on ticket totalled 4579.

“The following is a list of gate takings. in comparison with previous years, (ho t"kincß for each day being given indiv'dimllv:

Although the weather was very much against the early day attendances. I am convinced that outside attractions are very necessary for the success of each dav, and I feel certain this aspect will receive early attention from vour energetic president and committee,” the report concluded.
