Another heavy fall of snow lias occurred on the Tararuas, In consequence of the snow waters whitebait has been exceedingly scarce and no catches have yet been made. Several very lino frostfish, however, have been found on the beach. The cold weather has also had a bad effect on violet crops. Petty thieving continues and on Saturday night a local fruit shop was entered. Cars w ero also visited and articles taken. One culprit was to-day fined £2, ia default soven days’ imprisonment. A number of school teachers from this district are attending the confereence at Wellington In the junior football matches on Saturday Otalci beat Waikanae while Moutoa beat Rnhui. A basketball match between tho Bandits (boys) and the Rovers (girls), p'a-yed yesterday, resulted in a win for tho latter. Mrs Roxburgh, Otaki’s oldest resident, is at present in a very indifferent stale of health. Miss Beryl Noble, who has been in the Wellington Hospital for some time, will shortly leave for Levin, where she will stay with her sister, Mrs T. Satherley.
