RESTORATION QUESTION.

NO GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. “Reverting to previous correspondence in connection with your association’s application for financial assistance Irorn the Employment Promotion Fund toward the cost of repairing the damage to the members’ grandstand and other buildings, 1 have to advise that this matter lias been given very careful consideration,” stated a letter from the acting-Alinister of Labour (Hon. P. C. Mebb), received at the monthly meeting of the Alanawatu aiid West Coast A. and P. Association’s general committee to-day. “As you are no doubt aware, granting of assistance from the Employment Promotion Fund under my department’s building subsidy scheme was terminated some considerable time ago. “The difficulties with which your association is faced in the financing of this work are, however, fully appreciated, and, in view of this, consideration was given to the question of making a special subsidy available, but I regret having to advise that it has not been possible to approve of any subsidies being granted in respect of works of this nature.” The' president (Air J. A. Russell) gave his opinion that the association should not allow the matter to rest there, hut should make further representations—possibly in another direction. On the motion of Air J. A. Nash, it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the president.
