ADVANCE IN BUTTER.
HIGHEST PRICE FOR YEAR. RECOVERY IN CHEESE. The price of New Zealand butter on the London market last, week advanced to 115 s per cwt., the highest level reached this year. The previous peak was Ills a ewt a month ago. A year ago the price touched 115 s to 117 s a cwt. After an active demand throughout the week at advancing prices, the market was 6teady at the clcse on Friday, says a cabled report received by the Primary Products Marketing Department. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, wore as follows: New Zealand.—Salted, 115 s (110 s to Ills; a year ago, 115 s to 117 s); unsalted, 'llss (110 s; a year ago, 117 s to 118 s). Australian. —Salted, 113 s to 114 s (109 s to 110 s); unSalted, 113® to 114 s (109 s).
Irish. —Creamery, salted, 115®. Danish.—lo3s, f.0.b.; 122 s spot (95«; 115 s to lifts).
Dutch!—Salted, 103 s (105 s); unsalted, 109 s to 110 s (106® to 107 s). Siberian. —Salted, 107 s to 109® (195 s to 106 s). Ukranian. —Salted, 107® to 109® (105 s to 106 s). Lithuanian. —Salted, 110 s; unsalted, 111* to 112 s. j The retail price of New Zealand and Danish butter in London is unchanged at Is 2d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand butter last week totalled 1818 tons. The quantity in store was 4892 tons, compared with 5174 tons a year ago. Deliveries of Australian butter last week wore 1363 tons, the quantity in store boing 6084 tons, as compared with 3764 tom a year ago. There was a rccovory last week of 13 od to 2® a ewt in the price of cheese, the market for which closed quiet. The retail prico of New Zealand cheese in London advanced from 9d to lOd a lb. Friday’s closing quotation®, with those of tho previous Week in parenthetic®, were as follows: New Zealand. —White, 72s to 72s 6rl (703 6d to 71s; a year ago, 62s to 62s 6d); coloured, 70s (68s 6d to 695; a year ago, 61® 6d to 625). Australian.—White, 70s to 71s (68s to 69®). Canadian. —C.i.f., 70s. English.—Finest farmers’, not quoted; factory cheese, 67s to 72s (70s). Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last weok were 22.981 crate®, tho quantity m store being 46,673 crates, compared with 93,746 crates a year ago. Canadian cheese in store totalled 72,218 boxes, compared with 55,238 boxes a year ago.
