GIRL CITIZENS.
MOTHER AND DAUGHTER BANQUET. A very pleasant time was spent when the Girl Citizens entertained their mothers at a mother and daughter banquet on Saturday evening. The clubroom was attractively decorated with spring flowers a.nd Iceland poppies. The function was well attended, there being approximately 90 people present. The Chief Citizen, Betty Gotten, acted as toast-mistress, the following toasts being honoured : “The King” ; “Our Mothers.” proposed by Betty Cutten and ably replied to bv Mrs Forrest; “Our Daughters,” proposed by Mrs Judd and replied to by Joyce Gilberd ; “The Girl Citizen Movement,” proposed by Miss N. Jordan and replied to by Myra Forrest; “The Y.W.C.A.,” proposed by Helen Loudon and replied to bv Miss Hindle. Suitable songs accompanied the toasts. A short programme was also arranged by the Girl Citizens, the following items being contributed :—Dance. Rae Hatton; song, Mavis Dunstan : dance, Barbara Heath; song, Lorna Proctor; recitation, Joyce Hassell, and .a pla.v, “April Showers,” presented by the following citizens: Misses Charlotte Brighte, Joyce Gilberd: Miss Laetitia Thurlow, Myra Forrest; Miss Alicia Pramley, Dot Judd; Miss Rosie Pramley, Alison Pederson ; Lucy Pemberton, Jo Judd; Phoebe, Betty Williamson. A short community sing was then enjoyed. Votes of thanks were passed by the Chief Citizen to Miss MeCreadie, Mrs Evans and Miss N. Jordan for their kind assista.nce, also to the girls who contributed to the programme, as well as those who had helped in the preparation of the banquet. The gathering was concluded by the girls saving the Citizen Code and then singing “I Would be True.”
SOCIAL EVENING. The Housewives’ League held their monthly euchre and dance at the Trades Hall, Cuba Street, last week, some two hundred patrons attending. On behalf of the league, Mr J. Hodgens, M.P., welcomed the gathering. Under the guidance of Mesdames Thomas and Mason, a. ladies’ committee provided a pleasant evening’s enjoyment. The dance programme with the assistance of Mr C. Lloyd and Mesdames Hunt and Doyle at the piano, the latter singing two 6ongs, was enjoyed. Mr G. Gulliver was M.C. for the evening. Mr Broughton and Miss Shaw were the winners of the Monte Carlo dance and Mrs Bowater and Mr Kent the spot light. A very amusing parcel game, for a parcel donated by Mrs E. Jones, was won by Mr Hodgens. A large cake was donated bv Mrs Frank Robertson. Supper was provided by the ladies’ committee and the gathering dispersed at midnight with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
