Mrs H. E. Gaze lias returned to her home in Hamilton from a visit to her daughter, Mrs J. AVyline-Jones, in Palmerston North.

It was reported to the monthly meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board to-day, by the chairman (Mr J. A. Nash) that the matron (Miss J. M. McGhie) had suffered an indisposition and was seriously ill. The board passed a motion expressing sympathy with Miss McGhie and wishing lier a speedy recovery. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, Acting-Director of School Hvgiene, Health Department, /Wellington, visited Christchurch to attend the New Education Fellowship Conference. Miss Margaret Geddes, the daughter of Sir Auckland Geddes, is affianced to the German Prince Ludwig of Hesse, states a London cablegram.

Mrs Louis Botha, widow of the great South African soldier and statesman, died recently at Botha House, Sezela, on the south coast of Natal. She had been in poor health for some time.

The death occurred suddenly on Saturday evening of Mrs Kate Rose Leaver, 0.8. E., wife of a former Mayor of Westport and a member of an old AVestport family. Deceased, who had been to the pictures with her son-in-law and daughter, collapsed and died immediately on arrival at her home.— Press Association.

Dr. Nancy Galpin, of Marton, who was for some time a student at Massey College, is in Edinburgh, working on the staff of the Institute of Animal Genetics, ahd she will probably be there for at least another year, wrote a London correspondent on June 23. She hopes to spend her holidays in France with her sister, Miss Patricia Galpin. Mrs H. L. Hunt, of A\ 7 ellingt.on, who will be matron-of-honour at _ the wedding of her twin sister. Miss Audrey Pees, to-morrow evening, is staying with her mother, Mrs C. Pees, of College Street. Mr Hunt will journey to Palmerston North to-morrow to be best inan. Miss Jean Duthie, of Auckland, who will be a bridesmaid, and Miss Jessie Duthie, of Te Kuiti. are also staying with Mrs Pees. Another bridesmaid, Miss Una Dixon, of AA 7 ellington, has arrived in Palmerston North.

Mr and Sirs AVilliam T. Grundy, of Hawker Street, AVellington, celebrated their diamond wedding on Saturday, and among the many messages of congratulation received was one from Their Majesties, the King and Queen. The message read: “The King and Queen send you hearty congratulations and good wishes on your diamond wedding day.” (Signed), Private Secretary, Buckingham Palace. London. The Gov-ernor-General, Lord Galway, also sent the following message: “I send you my warmest congratulations on the celebration to-day of the sixtieth anniversary of your marriage.—Galway.” Mr Grundy was for 27 years headmaster of the Clyde Quay School, AA'ellington.
