MEN’S GUILD.

The first meeting of the Manawatu Co-operative Alen’s Guild was held in the Trades Hall on Thursday evening, there being an attendance of 2o members. Mr AA’. J. Moore was in the chair. The first portion of the evening consisted of tho adoption of the constitution and the election of officers, the following being appointed: President, Mr AV. J. Aloorc; vice-president, Air Ainscougli; secretary-treasurer, Air H. AA’ Klein; committee. AJessrs Stokes, AlcEwen. G. Rowe, T. Davidson and B. J. Klein. The second portion of the evening consisted of a smoke conceit, and all present contributed items which added to the pleasure of the function. The following toasts were drunk: “The Co-operative Alovement,” proposed by Air E. Sherry and replied to by Air Caution ; “The Labour Government, Mr C. Alandcno, who stressed the great need for unity amongst all sections of tlic Labour movement, tbe Labour Party, the Communist Party, tbe cooperative movement, and the trade unions, in order that the Labour Government might go forward to the building of a new era for the people. Mr Y. A. Christensen replied, dealing with the development of the Labour movement. and the victory of the Labour Government, and also stressing the urgent necessity of co-operation of all propressive people in support of the Labour Government. “The Manawatu Co-operative AVonien’s Guild” was proposed by Air G. A. Brown and replied to by Air Ainscougli. Air AA’. J. Aloore proposed the toast, “The Co-operative Society’s Management Committee,” this being replied to by Air Foster. Air Fox proposed the toast, “The Overseas Co-operative Alovement,” the reply being made by Air Fleck, who most interestingly outlined his experiences during 50 years of participation in progressive movements, the overseas cooperative movement in particular. Air E. Sherry also made a few very interesting remarks on his own experiences in the co-operative movement. He proposed the toast of “Absent Friends,” this being replied to by Mr G. Brown. The function concluded with a vote of thanks to those who had organised such an enjoyable evening. _
