EXTRAC TS FROM THE “STANDARD.” JULY 19, 1907. . ' An epidemic of diphtheria had been experienced in Palmerston North. There had been six cases a week. The report of the Manavvatu County Council had shown that the Sandon-Fox-toti tramwav had provided a profit on the year of £173 Is 10d. Eighteen building permits involving nn expenditure of £2634 had been issued by the Palmerston North Borough Council in the past month. Five of the permits had been for new dwellings. The sale of the Horopito township had heen advertised. It had been stated: “Situated on the new railway between Auckland and Wellington, Horopito must become a principal inland town.” During the year ended June 30, 1907, there had been 446 680 bales ot wool exported from New Zealand compared with 415.381 the previous year The Palmerston North Borough Council had decided to have portion of the Esplanade stumped, leveLed and ploughed.
