(From Our Own Correspondent.) UTUWAI, July 17.
There was a good attendance at the fortnightly euchre and dance, the prizes being won by Airs Enright and Mr N. Hart. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mesdames Smith and Osborne. A lucky Gay Gordons was won by Aliss Darkness and Air C. F. Viles. Airs A. Roberts presided over a fair attendance at the July meeting of the Wo-' men’s Institute. One new member, Aliss A. Wingate, was enrolled. A short debate, "Are Longer or Shorter Dresses Best?” was held. Airs. Wingate acted as chairwoman, with Aliss Roberts-as leader of the affirmative and Aliss Hfirkness the negative; the affirmative side won. . A demonstration on hairpin work was given by Aliss Darkness, while Airs A. Roberts demonstrated on grafting the toe of a sock. Afternoon tea was served by Alesdames Darkness and Forbes and Aliss J. Enright, after which the TJtuwai members entertained during the social half-hour. Competitions were won by Aliss brant and Aliss Af. McEwen. A recitation was given by Aliss Grant. In the points competition for a knitted lea-cosy, with only thre entries. Airs A. Roberts was awarded first with Airs W. Roberts second and Airs Wingate third. Hostesses for the August meeting will be Mesdames .Tensen, Pettigrew and AlcEwen. Piripiri members will provide the social half-hour.
