TE ARAKURA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE ARAKURA, July 17.

The July meeting of the To Arakura Women’s Institute was held in tho hall. Airs Haythorno presided and after extending a welcome to the visitors read the thought for tho month, “People wrapped up in themselves make very small, parcels.” Apologies for absence were received from Alcsdames Griffith, Rich Rutherford, Stanley, Ciiectliam, Fitzgerald and J. H. Bennett. Three new members were enrobe —Airs Goodman, Airs Lucas and Aliss Tantrum. Thanks wore accorded Airs Griffith and Airs Wilkins, who bad collected and staged tho articles for entry at the Show. Special thanks was also extended to the members who had made the various exhibits, thus enabling the institute to win the second prize in tho section for assorted articles. The competition for the best knitted bod jacket resulted: Airs Griffith 1, Mrs Clevciy 2; best-worked apron, Aliss M. Burnham (junior class). Flower competition : Aire 'fait and Airs , Palmer. A lecture was to have been given by Aliss Curtis, but she was unable to bo present. Humorous recitations woro given by Airs Lucas and Airs Hughes. Mrs Whisker, convener of the Awatea group, reminded members of the meeting to be held in Bunnytliorpe in September, when tl|o competition will bo for the best child s singlet, 2-ply wool, apd scones made from the given recipe. The drama circle staged a plav, entitled “The Waxen Alan,” those taking part being Airs Haythorno (coachguard), All's Packwood (the boy), and Airs Lucas (Alison, his sister). Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Alcsdames Russell, Ansin, Kendrick, Wallace, and Swainson. The president extended thanks to Airs Russell and /Airs Ansin who arranged the programme for the birthday evening. Thanks are also due the door attendants, Air B. Burnham and Mr RStewart. Thanks were extended to Airs Haythorno, who had donated the birthday cake. Alention was made of tho two plays that the drama circle were staging at the forthcoming festival. A vote of thanks was accorded the hostesses, judges of competitions, Alcsdames Goodman, Phillips, Wcvoll, and Bradley, the stall stewards, and Mrs Hughes and Airs Lucas for their items. The hostesses at the August meeting will be Alcsdames Sorenson, Wilkins, Burnham, Bradley and Griffin, and the competitions will be tho same as for tho group meeting. Flowers: Iceland poppy, polyanthus primrose, and primroses. A stall will also be held for federation funds.
