PETROL EXPLOSION.

MANY PERSONS INJURED. ATLANTIC CITY. July 17. Flaming oil was sprayed on 10,000 spectators when petrol storage tanks exploded, injuring 175. 38 of whom are in critical conditions in hospital. Many people were trampled down in making an effort to escape through the streets. The gutters flowed with blazing petrol, menacing homes in a large area. The fire was extinguished with sand from a neighbouring sea beach. The fire departments from six cities struggled for the whole day before they extinguished the flames. It was chiefly firemen who were hurt.
