Received July 19, 1.55 p.m. RUGBY, July 18. In a speech at Middlesborough, the Prim© Minister (Rt. Hon. Neville Chamberlain), after alluding to the improved trading conditions throughout the country and expressing satisfaction that tlie workers were getting a share of it, raid he thought that the country could congratulate itself that when the need ior rearmament came the revenue had expanded so much that they were able to take up their task without undue strain. His wish was that all the nations would soon 6ec the futility of spending all this money on armaments, because they were afraid of each other, instead of spending it on better food, education and other things which made for the comfort of the people.
