(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, July 15.

The July meeting of tho Women’s Institute was held in (he Town Hall, when Mrs B. Fairless presided over a good attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Et’lnond, Bristow, Curtis, and Misses M. Wilkin and V. Muldrock. The secretary of the Hall Committee sent a letter in appreciation for the donation toward the hall funds. Two new members were added to the committee, these being Mesdames Woodroofe and TunniclifTe. Mrs A. Currie gave an account of her recent holiday spent motoring in tlie north. Mrs Anion proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Currie. Hie thought for the month was: “Life without friendship would bo like a world without smiles.” The competition for a knitted bed jacket resulted: Mrs Bleakley 1, Miss A. Dobson 2. and Mrs Flowers 3. Best flower grown in the garden (by popular vote), Mrs Forlong 1, Mrs Kerrigan 2. Tho competition for the August meeting will be cane work. The hostesses at this meeting were Mesdames Forlong, Hackelt, McDonell and Mclntyre.

Miss Vera Muldrock is spending a holiday in the Waikato. Mrs Woodroofe and the Misses Woodroofe were the hostesses at a jolly house parly which was held at their residence. The guests were gathered in the sitting room, which was very attractive. _ Game, were played. A balloon competition wit. won by Mr J. Borrett. Hie younger folk joined in a community sing with Miss fa. Read at the piano. Supper was served, the main feature being a large cake beautifully decorated by Airs T. Baton. Among those present were: Mesdames H. Woodroofe and X. Baton, and Misses M. and 1. Woodroofe, M. Wilkin. B. Romley, E. and N. Mclsaac, K. Brewer, S. Read, J. Baton, Messrs H. Woodroofe, T. Patou, N. Brewer, R. Potts, J. Borrett, M. Bailey, S. Watt, G. Romley and M. Baton. Air T. Baton thanked the hostesses for the enjoyable time spent and Mr Woodroofe replied. ABHHURST, July 16.

The Ashhurst School was visited on Wednesday morning by two members of the Wanganui Education Board, Mr I. W. .Mudford "and Air J. Batcholar, who were on a tour of inspection of schools. Opportunity was taken during the inspection to present the awards won during the peel season in the Agricultural Clubs—calf and root work. Mr AJudford, after a short address, presented certificates to Alaurice Murphy, Betty Murphy and June Baton, winners 'in tlm calf competition, arid to Royer. Drummond, Trevor King, and Brian Drummond in the root competition.

On a recent evening the Ashhurst Ping Pong A and B teams visited the Aovangi Club to plav a friendly mutch. The A team won bv 19 games to 17, the players being K. Wiggins, J-. liaekott. J. Borrett. Miss K. Brewer. N. Brewer and R. Polls. Tho 15 team. .Misses M. Woodroofe and M. Lacv, AL Baton and L. Watt, won their games 20-16. AL a meeting of the Town Ilall Committee it was decided that the masquerade ball 1)0 held during September. An advertisement with full particulars will appear in tliis paper at a later date. Aliss Kathleen Story, of Ashhurst, has returned from a motor lour lo Auckland. Airs G. 11. Story and Mrs Alopliaiu am visiting their parents in Otago.
