THIEVING RAT.
STEALS DIAMOND RING. The disappearance of a valuable diamond ring from a dressing table in a room at Adelaide, while a woman was sleeping one night, puzzled the police until a strange clue developed. On another night, while the on tier was asleep, a reel of cotton also disappeared from the dressing tab.e. Next morning it was found that a trail of cotton led from a work basket on the dressing table into another room, where the cotton had been entangled around the legs of a sideboard. This led Constable F. C. Nenke to believe that a / rat had taken the ring. Floor boards in; the bedroom were pulled up, and a torch showed the diamond glittering among a cluster of small pieces of glass and clothing, a few feet from the wall, where they had evidently been taken by a rat.
