(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKf, June 5. Rev. G. F. Petrie, at one time vicar at Otaki, is still in a Wellington Hospital in very indifferent health. Air Allan Lee, who captained the Australian hockey team when in Otaki, has been in hospital with an injury to his leg, received while playinghockey. Air Leo now intends to gi\o up the game. I The sum of £2 18s 6d has been handed in for the King George Y .Memorial Fund from subscribers at To IJoro. A pleasant evening r tvns spent at the Fire Station on Wednesday, when the Fire Brigade, the holders of the Howell Trophy, were challenged by members of the R.S.A. The firemen won by 21 games to 18. ■ At the Catholic Parish Hall on Wednesday night the fortnightly euchre tournament wa? held. First prizes wore won by Mrs Beauchamp and Air G. Wintevburn, and second prizes by A/rs Bell and Air H. Tataroa. A party from the AJanakau Drama Circle visited the Otaki Sanatorium recently and gave a programme. Airs Madge was the organiser, and five small plays were arranged. Airs R. Fielding gave solo items. At the Magistrate's Court on Thursday before Messrs T. H. Windley and H. Nicolson, J.P.’s. the following cases were heard: N'orman Wilson, for operating a motor lorry at a speed exceeding tli'c maximum speed allowed by law, was fined £2, costs 10s. Alatenga Baker, charged with operating a motor vehicle not equipped with efficient brakes, was fined £l, costs 10s. Baker was also charged with failing to comply with the Traffic Regulations and was fined £l. costs 13s. The inspector •stated that Baker’s ear had been ordered off the road, but that he had not complied with the instructions. K. Bly, for operating a motor lorry without having obtained a license, was fined £2, costs 12s. L. D. Simmons, for failing to carry cn his vehicle a warrant, of fitness was fined Ids, costs 10s. Alatenga Baker was fined £l, cents 10s. for allowing cows-to wander. The rainfall in Otaki for Alny totalled 2.68 in. There were seventeen days cf rain, with the- heaviest fall (,57in) on the 2nd. The fall since the first of the year to date has been 14in. There were seven frosts during the month, the heaviest (10 degrees) being on the 7th.
