SEARCHING FOR OIL
EFFORTS IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) Received June 7, 11.20 a.m. RUGBY, June 6. Lord Apsley, representing the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defence, set in motion at t rove Hill, Sussex, the machinery for the first boring by the Anglo-American Oil Co. in efforts to discover oil in England. It was announced that tho present drilling had been confined to only a few acres, hut the company now had a license for drilling on approximately 500 square miles and had lodged applications for new licenses covering a further 2200 square miles.
