TRIBUTE TO MINISTER

REV. DR. JONES. (British Official Wireless ) Received June 7. 11.45 a.m. RUGBY. June 5. High tributes were paid last night to the work of the eminent Nonconformist divine, Rev. Dr. Jones, who, after 39 years as pastor of the Congregational Church at Bournemouth, is retiring at the age of 72. The Archbishop of Canterbury, in a letter read at a dinner to Dr. Jones, referred to his very special place among the leaders' of the religious life of the nation. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Simon), the Bishop of Winchester, the Earl of Malmshury, and Lord Marks were among those present at the dinner. Sir John Simon, who said he himself was the son of a Congregational minister, paid warm tribute to the example of good citizenship and brave championship of many good causes which had been set by l)r. Jones.
