METHODIST CHURCH. From Onr Own Correspondent.) APITI, June 7. A social was held on Friday evening, organised by the members of tho Methodist Bible class. Rev- R. Coombndge opened the evening with a hymn and prayer, and Mr W R Pratt assisted in enterta:ning the young people. There were about 30 present. Games \rere enjoyed, supper being served at the rtuirtnsion. GOLF. A meeting of the Golf Club Committee was held on Friday evening, when local rules were fully discussed. The question of moves was also discussed from all angles. It was decided to make no change in the present rules. Arrangements for afternoon tea at future meetings were also maCie R.S.A The squally weather conditions prevailir.o- on Friday evening did not dampen the spirits of the 65 returned men who foregathered from far and near at the annual re-union of tlie Arm’. R.S.A. Visitors were present from Palmerst.oll North, Fcilding, Ashhurst. Halcombe, Kimbolton and Rangiwahia. The president (Mr \V. J. Osborne) opened the meeting and apologies for absence were received from Mr B. J. Jacobs, and General R. Young, Mr J G. Cobbe. M.P.. Colonel J. 11. Whyte, and several others. Major L. At a recent meeting of the committee if was decided to install floodlighting at. the Domain, and also to have a dance later in the month. GENERAL. An incident occurred in Apiti a few evenings ago, . when some residents near Apiti draw up in the township in a taxi from town. The taxi was well loaded with goods of all kinds and the occupants had a l'ttle business to do before continuing their trip. On alighting they were approached by a stranger who claimed acquaintance. After further conversation he suggested that he should take them the remaining 7 or 8 miles in his car, transferring the goods and dismissing the taxi. He managed to convince tho travellers more or less, and they accepted his offer.

Having stowed their goods in the stranger’s car all moved away out of sight of the car for a short space. The stranger, however, did not iollow and on going back to invite him !o accompany them they found the car, the stranger and all (heir belongings gone. The matter is in tho hands of the police. Mr R. Cave well-known in tins district recently married Miss Williams, of Wanganui. Their future home will bo on the fudge Road. , The magazine of the local school is making its first appearance to-day. . Called “The Apitinian,” it is entirely the work of the children and is a credit to them. It is full of items of local interest and will give great pleasure. Jim Eliot and D. Kearney were Apili senior players who played for Oroua in tho representative Rugby mutch Oroua v. liangitikei at Kimbolton on Saturday.
