The Sandon Tabic Tennis Club advised that they held £4 2s in trust for a rebuilding fund for the hall. A letter is to bo sent to the club thanking them for their gesture. A request was received from the Sandon Women’s Institute for a reduction in the tec charged for the hall for a recent flowor show. It was agreed to remit 10s. The balancesheet as returned by the audit office was adopted. Two outstanding accounls amounting to £5 ID were written off. It was decided to purchase new matting for the centre of the hall and for the stage. Mr J. H. Perrett was unanimously re-elected chairman for the ensuing year and Mr 11. J. Fagan lion, secretary. The assistantsecretary, Mr 8. L. Orr, was reappointed. At the annual moetiiig of tho board, Mr J. H. Perrett (chairman) presided. Other board members present were Messrs H. J. Fagan (secretary), W. H. Henson, TV. E.• Pearco and a representative attendance of the public. Tho chairman said that tho position was much the same as last year so far as the finances were concerned, the balance-sheet revealing a credit balance of £135 7s sd. Mr Perrett explained that £l6 more than the receipts for tho year had been spent on the hall. Ho assured thoso present that any recommendations would receive the ' favourable consideration of the hoard. Mr C. E. J. Eglington inquired what had been done regarding the proposal decided on last year concerning the rebuilding fund. The chairman replied that no money had been set aside, in a separate fund, but lie was pleased to learn that the Table Tennis Club had set aside just over £4. Air A. K. Drew said it appeared lo him that during the past two or three years the board had finished its year with a credit balance of £l2O to £l3O, and it seemed that it would be a good idea if £IOO was placed on fixed deposit. Air A. 1L Sanson said that there was an urgent need of improvement in tho ladies’ dressing room. Air D. C. Sanson suggested that the inside of the hall be painted. Air H. J. Fagan said lie was quite in favour of improvements being made, but it was a question of finance. Air Perrett staled that when lie first became a member of the board the ball fund had a deficit, of £l5O, and there was no doubt that a lot of the improvements that had been effected since the board took over the nail would not. have been done. Mr A. H. Sanson considered that a younger committee should be members of the board. Jhe trustees concurred with ' this view. It was suggested by Air A. K. Drew that a committee of younger people, be set up representative of tho cit.i7.ells of the district 1o control the affairs of the ball and that: a. certain amount be allocated to that committee each year. The chairman remarked that he understood the suggestion was to be carried out last year. Air AV H. Oppatt considered a £1 for £1 sm>sidv should bo allocated to the committee on"the revenue of the hall. The chairman considered the suggestion was a splendid one, but he could not commit the trustees at this stage. The chairman stated tha the question of amalgamating the .boarc with the Alanawatu Gounty Council had been discussed and he would like expressions of opinion. It was not known wliat was going' to be the ultimate outcome so far as the county was concerned, hut il the board amalgamated with the county it would simplify matters a great deal. He saw no reason why the Cemetery Board should not be vested in the county but as far as the board was concerned it was a different matter, although other town hoards were controlled by local bodies. An Drew ‘ considered that at the present it would bt‘ wipe not to take wiy action. 1 matter was then dropped. Air Diew aoki.d if the board would agree to set up a committee representative of the citizens ami local clubs to take over the control of he hall and work in conjunction with the board. Mr AV. E- Pearce speaking as a member of the board, said lie would bo in favour of a committee of citizens being sot up and also to allow the amount cob looted in rents, as well as a subsidy up to £25 on a £ for £ basis to be spent on the hall for repairs, maintenance and improvements each year. His proposal was later agreed to when the trustees went into committee after (lie annual meeting, and if was decided that a meeting he held with a view to setting up a committee to control the affairs of the hall. 1 am teij pleased with the attitude of the trusteos ir. agreeing to set up a committee, said All Drew. “It will be. a good thing to tiy them out and should give experience to the fut ure members of the Park Board. Iho chairman said the proposal was not new “o far as lie was concerned. In the meantime the amalgamation scheme would haw to be bold over.
