BIRTHDAY FUNCTION.

Air William Reid, who recently attained his 84th birthday, and who was engaged in farming in the Alakino district for over 50 years bebefore retiring to live in Feilding, was recently tendered a birthday party by the members of his family. Euchre was played and at the conclusion of the tournament Airs W. E. Baker presented the prizes, Airs A. H. AicNae being the winner of the ladies’ first prize, and Airs J. Simpson the consolation. The men’s first prize was won by Air Wallace Reid, and the consolation by All- Alervyn .Reid. Items were given by the ioJlowing: Fay Sunnex, Winnie Huddleston, Caryl! Reid, Lottie Baker, and Alvin Sunnex. The handsome birthday cake made by Airs D. W. Reid and Aliss Alay AlcNae was iced and decorated by Mrs Val Reid. Air 'J I . Glen conveyed the good wishes of all present to the guest of honour, his health being drunk with musical honours. Mi H. Robinson spoke on behalf of the Reid family, .Air D. W. Reid replying. The opportunity was taken by Airs D. W. Reid to express appreciation and thanks to Air and Mrs Val Reid for their untiring and kind services to their father. The guest of honour presented his daughter-in-law, Airs Val Reid, with a small gift. Little Caryll Reid was also a recipient of a small gift from her grandfather.
