CHEMISTS’ GOODS

DISTRIBUTING COMPANY. FORMATION AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 3,

For the purpose of improving distribution of goods among retail chemists throughout New Zealand and to promote, further and protect the interests of the Chemists’ Service Guild of New Zealand, a company called Gilseal, Ltd., lias been registered in Auckland. Its creation is the result of long negotiations and discussions in the industry. Although the objects of the company in the memorandum of association arc very comprehensive, including that of bulk buying, the present intention is to confine the operations to the puicliase through the most advantageous sources and packing by wholesale interests concerned of chiefly standard lines, possibly with the company’s trademark. The fact that the capital of the company is a nominal one of LlUt) suggests there is no present intention to carry out in full the objects of tlie I company as outlined in the memorandum of association. One of the objects of the company is to enable members of the Gliemisds Service Guild to obtain the benefits and services of a co-operative manufacturing, packing and buying and distributing organisation for their professional and business purposes. Further, there is provision to enter into arrangements with any national or local authority or any association or society for the promotion and conduct or health or medical services, to make rebates and allow special discounts on purchases to any purchasers of g° oc or services and particularly to purchasers who are members of the Lliemists’ Service Guild and to give financial or other assistance to the Qlicnnsts Service Guild and to members thereof. The directors arc Mr H. I.revel} an King, who is president of the guild; Mr S Smith, vice-president ot tne guild,'and Mr R. Cotternll, treasurer of the guild. The secretary of the company is Mr M. D. Gray, a public accountant, who is secretary of the guild. , ~ , It was explained by Mr King that there was no intention to engage in hulk buying as it was generally understood but rather to arrange for bulk distribution and packing of various standard lines, nor was there any intention of concentrating in purchases on one manufacturing company. Briefly the idea was to get the prices tor the supplv and packing of various lines and to accept those offering the best advantages both in price and quality. A concern entrusted with the supply of a particular line would he required to pack it, possiblv under the trademark of the Gilseal Co. Such packed lines would carry to the public a guarantee of quality. Buying would bo very much on the system : pursued bv the various chain stores. • The directors of the company were selected as the executive officers of • the guild, and they would hold shares on behalf of the guild. Tf it were desired to extend the activities of the company at any time the capital could bo increased.
