PERSONAL.
Mr Justice O’Regan was yesterday sworn in as a Judge ot the Suprenie Court, and was then able to receive his appointment as jicting-President of the Court ot Arbitration.
Messrs J. A. Russell (Kairanga), president of the New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association, W. L. West (Woodville), W. P. Bickers (Feilding), members of the council, and K. S. Glendinning (Palmerston North), secretary of the association, will be in Auckland to-morrow for a meeting of the council and for the annual meeting of the association the next day. Mr R. Porter, of Victoria Avenue, managing-direejtor of Porter Motors, Ltd., and Mri Porter, acompanied by Mr Coates, production manager of General Motors, and Mrs Coates will leave Auckland on June 15 for a tour of the United States. While abroad, Mr Porter will study the production and sales methods of General Motors, Ltd.
Mr H. E. Edmunds was extended a welcome by the president of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce (Air A. J. Graham) when he took his seat at the monthly meeting, last evening, at the conclusion of three months’ leave of absence, granted for reasons of health. Air Graham said the members of the chamber were gratified at seeing Mr Edmunds again with them, fit and well, and they liox>ed he would continue to be so. ,
Archdeacon A. J. Petrie, who has been vicar of'St. Stephen’s Church, Ashburton, for nearly nine years, has accepted the cure of Akaroa. He will take up his new duties at the end of August. Archdeacon Petrie was born in Alnv, 1888. He was educated at Selwyn* College, Dunedin, taking a degree in theology at Durham. He was ordained as a deacon in 1912, and as a priest in 1913. For a year lie was priest in charge of Owaka, and from* 1914 to 1917 served as curate at St. Matthew’s, Dunedin. His appointment as Archdeacon of Akaroa and Ashburton took effect in 1934. Reference to the recent death on the playing field of the Hamilton High School of Master Morris Alaunder, the son of Air and Airs IL AI. Maundei, formerly of Palmerston North, and an ex-pupil of the Terrace End School, was made at A meeting of the Terrace End School Committee, last evening, when a motion of sympathy was aj> corded the parents in tlieir .loss. “We were shocked to hear of the tragic death of Alorris Alaunder. He was a most promising boy and the sympathy of the. school has been extended to bis parents,” stated the headmaster (Air A. \V. Thompson), in the course of his monthly report to tbe committee.
