WANGANUI RACES.

FIRST DAY ON SATURDAY. Opening on Saturday next, and continuing on the King’s Birthday holiday (June 9), the Wanganui Jockey Club’s steeplechase meeting promises to be one of the meet attractive provided in the river city. Ithasdrawh big fields of first-class horses, some of which, because of the bold policy adopted by the Wanganui club in the allotment of stake money, are racing thero instead ot at Ellerslio. Racing will start at noon and conclude at 4.5 p.m. Special trains at excursion fares will be available for patrons from the Manawatu district, with whom the Wanganui fixture is very popular. There will be a single pool totalisalor and an additional feature will be the dividend indicator. Easy and well-controlled facilities for ear-parking have been arranged. Alterations havo been made at the racecourse whereby the spaco for this purpose has been increased threefold. Principal among the first day’s events ore the Century Hurdles (of £350), the Empire Handicap (£250), and the Grandstand Steeplechase (£250). With the class of horses engaged exciting racing should be witnessed. ACCEPTANCES ANNOUNCED.
