NOTES.

When the question of fixing transport charges was under consideration last evening, Mr H. A. Stewart (ot the Feilding Farmers’ Union) informed Mr P. S. Skoglund that there was a likelihood of Feilding losing its Wel-lington-Feilding longdistance road service as a result of the Railway Department’s attempt to eliminate competition. The speaker said that the service was an essential one to farmers who may need to get machinery parts up from Wellington expeditiously. At present if a part was broken the farmer could telephone to Wellington and get a new one sent up the sam dav and thus save any delay or possibility of a crop overripe being

ruined. Replying, Mr Skoglund said: “I think the motor service will still have to be carried on by whoever takes over the present long distance services. The people will demand it. That is my private opinion and I’m quite certain that the long distance motor service will remain.” The Feilding Lawn Tennis Club proposes to carry out an elaborate drainage scheme during the winter months. A start will be made with the drainage of the front courts and it is hoped to have these finished before the spring.
