TAX ON PROFITS
DEFENCE CONTRIBUTION. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.; Received June 1, 12.45 p.m. LONDON, May 31. Sir John Simon (Chancellor of the Exchequer), speaking in the House of Commons, defended the national defence contribution. He said that the concessions -in a full year would cost about £5,000,000 and the tax yield would be about £15,000,000. Dr. Dalton moved the rejection of the Bill. Several Conservatives criticised the tax.
