WOODVILLE, June 2. Mr R. Reid and Mr Lloyd Carrington, of Woodville, left recently for Australia. The friends of Mr S. P. Skinner,, of Woodville, will be pleased to know that he is progressing satisfactorily after receiving an injury to his foot. Mr N. E. Robertson, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, Woodville, who is on annual leave, is being relieved by Mr H. It. Hall, of Wellington.

The King George Y Memorial Fund in Woodville now totals £63 Os Bd. , There was an excellent attendance at the Borough Council rooms, when arrangements for the celebration in September of the fiftieth anniversary of the borough and the sixtieth anniversary of the Woodville School were discussed. The Mayor (Mr H. P. Horne) presided. Replying to Mr A. H. Hustwick, the Mayor said that Woodville was constituted a borough in July, 1887, while the jubilee of the settlement of the district was celebrated in 1925. The celebrations in September, therefore, were for the jubilee of the borough and not of the district. All present were declared a general committee with power to add, w/.'e separate groups were as follow: Early history and publicity committee, the Mayor, Messrs A. Olsson, W. E. Fossette, L. J. Whittington, R. R. Johnston, C. Forbes, A. H. Hustwick, D. Keay and Mrs A. S. Hutching. Reception' committee, the Mayor and Mayoress, Messrs H. Galbraith, R. Bly, G. Peebles, S. Turnbull, A. M. Pickering, R. IT. Morgan, Mesdames W. Wilson, R. Richards and F. Hurley. Entertainment committee, Mesdames H. McNeil, J. McCormick. F. De Malmanehe. L. Hurley, Nicholson, Richaids, Wilson, Messrs A. Walker, De Malmanche, G. Hartridge, R. Peebles, Turnbull and Johnston. Sports committee, School Committee and Messrs Ely, R. Hurdle. C. J. Bishop, H. Giles. Turnbull. J. Sullivan, hi. Desmond, R. Peebles, A. Olsson and secretaries of all sports clubs in the district.

Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided at the Woodville Magistrate’s Court. The Highways Department proceeded against Edward Stevens, carrier, of Pahiatua., for operating a lorry in Woodville without the required goods service license. Defendant wa6 convicted and ordered to pay costs 10s. Traffic Inspector Yates proceeded against Arthur Dean, of Glengarry, Dannevirke, for exceeding 30 miles per hour when travelling through Woodville on April 9. A fine of £2 was imposed, with costs 12s. For using an unlicensed motor cycle, which also did not comply with the regulations in not having a. proper brake, Ernest J. Martin, Papatawa, was fined £1 with £1 costs. P. Love.pleaded not guilty to a charge of negligent driving on the main road on April 5. Constable L. Skinner stated that a youth, John Evans, employed by Mr G. L. Hartridge, of Napier Road, was travelling from the direction of the town in a dray. When on the small bridge near Hartridge’s a truck driven by deiendant ran into the dray. A film of £2 was imposed, cost 6 being £1 s®. A number of residents of - the Woodville Borough whose stock was caught wandering by the ranj.'r were prosecuted. The Magistrate imposed the following fines: —Patrick O’Connor, 10s. John McCormick 15s, P. Aslow 10s, T. West ss, J. Scott £l.
