BULLS.

(From Our Own Correspondent. ) BULLS, June 1. The Bulls Senior Rugby team, which has won the competition in the sub-union, will be represented by at least five members in the side to play Oroua. Culpan, the exPalmerston North three-quarter, is the best attacking man in that position here, and the sole selector, Mr A. Hcnwood, is wise in maintaining the combination in the live-eighths line, the team mates, Williams and Lawrence, combining perfectly. Lawrence is only a youth, but he has football brains, and runs straight, as well ns having a good side-step. Williams, lias been in the limelight before; bo is brilliant in attack, but is inclined to hang on to the ball. James is the best forward in the subunion, and some critics believe that be is worth considering when the trial games come on. Guppwell, another Bulls player, has secured a place. Ho is a good forward, plays a hard game, and handles the ball well. " Blair, who has not been playing regularly, has apparently been overlooked on” that account. Amongst the emergencies is Campbell, the Flock House ex-soccer player, ancl D. Potaka, a fust and energetic forward. Campbell lias mfido great strides in Rugby, and uses his feet well in a tight corner, particularly if the ball is greasy and the ground wet. He still has a fair amount to learn of the finer points of three-quarter play, however. Po. taka, a member of a great Rugby family, is fast but could do with more weight. Or, the whole, the side is a very good one. Bulls Seniors proved on Saturday that their lapse the previous week was not their correct form, by beating a strong Hunterville fifteen by 9 to 3. Tries were scored for Bulls by Culpan and AVilliams, and Stock k’cked a fine pcuulty goal from near half-way. 11. Rowe put over a penalty goal for the losers. Stock, the Bulls full-back, was uncertain in the early stages, but played better when wanned up, but both hero and at Hunterville H. Taiuru over-shadowed the Bulls man. Cul : pan scored a fine try, brushing off several defenders before crossing. Williams’s try was practically a solo effort, the nippy Maori breaking through, stab- punting, and securing again to seoi-e. Bulls Thirds went under to a heavier Hunterville side, the scores being 17 to 3. For a small town like Bulls it was remarkable to see over 50 players travelling on Saturday, each of the threo teams being “over-etaffed.”
