NOISE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —How much longer are we citizens of Palmerston North to put up with the horrible nerve-wracking noise of trains thundering through our fair city. From early morning till late night we have these screeching, clanking, and jolting things tearing through the heart of the city, and at times when shunting is in operation clouds of filthy smoke choke the shoppers and the stench of the cattle trains is awful. In addition some of the drivers seem to hold a competition for the longest whistle blast. Of course as long as we like to endure it nothing will be done, but I cannot understand what the heads of the city are doing to let this continue.—l am, etc; LESS NOISE.
