MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

LICENSING ACT CASES. Air J. L. Stout, S.AI., presided over the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North yesterday. The licensee of the . Commerc'ai Hotel, for whom Air J. At. Gordon appeared and entered a plea of guilty, was charged with selling liquor after hours on Alay 22. His barman, Alexander Toon, pleaded guilty to supplying liquor after hours on the same date. Air Gordon said the licensee was attending the annual reunion of the R.S.A. at the time and had defin’tely instructed the barman not to open the bar or sell liquor, in liis absence, to anybody not residing on the premises. The barmen had been sOspended in the meantime. It was the first offence by the licensee during the ten years he had been engaged in the trade, and the hotel bore au excellent reputation. A fine of £l, with. 10s costs, was imposed on the licensee, and of £5, with 10s costs, on the barman. Twelve men found on the premises after hours were each fined £2, with 10s costs. BREACHES OF BY-LAWS. For riding unlighted cycles at night, E. J. Jones and A. Smith were each fined 10s. with 10s costs. A penalty of 10s with 10s costs, was imposed on J. ■ AI. Barrott ior parking a motor vehicle over a fire plug in Broadway Avenue. For failure to possess a driver s license, E. R. Ennis was fined 10s, with 10s costs. On a further charge of riding an unTghted motor-cycle at night, ing was fined £l, with 10s costs. AIAINTENANCE CASES. R. Bell, stated to be £42 14s 4d in arrears on a maintenance order, ."was sentenced to two mouths imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended as long as the current order of 7s Od a wee*, is complied with and os a week is paid off the arrears. R. A. Tudor, stated to be £4 3s Od in arrears on a maintenance order, was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended as long as lie complies with the current order and Days ]2s 6d a week off the arrears. Magoulianos stated to be £l9 in arrears on a maintenance prejer of KL a week, was sentenced to one month s imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended as long as he complies with the current order and pays 10s weekly off the arrears. •
