ERECTION IN CITY. AIONTH’S PERAIITS. OVER £34,000. Interesting statistical information confirming the impression guinecL.'.v by the casual observer of marked building activity in the city was released by the Palmerston North City Council s building inspector yesterday. Dor tlie month of May. 38 building permits aggregating £34,149 in value, were issued for new buildings dr alterations to 'existing structures, ’ as : compared with 30 permits valued at £9336 in Alay last year. / . i . 7-, Permits have been 'issued • for ■• th©. erection of five houses and one bloc c of flats’ of a total value of £9843, and for"s alterations aggregating" £3l-/.', Twelve motor sheds are .being erected at" a cost of £430- and alterations’of this" nature total £192. New business premises account, for the greater proportion of the value, permits for three premises - totalling £15,000. Alterations to business premises are valued at £8367. The above figures do not take into account the houses to be erected under the Government’s scheme. ,
